Whisk(e)y Advent - Atomized Notes (Map of Content)

These notes atomize the material from Whisk(e)y Advent 2025 for an Obsidian vault. Each note carries YAML properties (type, author, source, advent_date, paired_bottle, tags) so you can build Dataview tables and graph views.

How the content is handled

  • Your own material - tasting notes, whisky lore summaries, and traditional/public-domain prayers - is written out in full.
  • Third-party material - sermons, poems, periodical reflections, copyrighted blessings, song lyrics, art - is captured as an index card: title, author, full citation, source link, theme, and the paired bottle. The complete text already lives in your own calendar files (calendar/YYYY-MM-DD.qmd); the card points you there rather than re-copying protected text. Paste your full text into a card whenever you want a self-contained note.

Categories

  • tasting-notes/ - one note per bottle (26), with distillery/region/style/ABV/cask/grain properties
  • scripture/ - the lectionary passages used each day
  • sermons/ - longer expository meditations (Bonhoeffer; Walsh/Middleton/Vander Vennen)
  • reflections/ - blog & periodical devotionals (Kate Bowler, Stephanie Saldana, Gayle Doornbos)
  • liturgies/ - prayers, collects, litanies and blessings
  • quotes/ - short attributed pull-quotes
  • whisky-lore/ - the educational “Whisky Stuff” write-ups

Suggested additional categories (created for you to review)

  • poems/ - Malcolm Guite, Richard Beck, Sally Ito, C. S. Lewis. Poems sat awkwardly between “liturgies” and “reflections”; a dedicated type makes them easier to find and reuse.
  • art/ - visio divina pieces (Suleiman Mansour, Otto Pankok, William West). You leaned on visual art several days; worth its own category.
  • music/ - the “Music to drink to” pairings (Leonard Cohen, trad. Irish, Spotify embeds).
  • whisky-lore/ - distinct from tasting notes; the teaching content is reusable year to year.

A few more you might add later

  • distilleries/ - promote the distillery profiles (Bruichladdich, Widow Jane, Nearest Green, Ardbeg, Angel’s Envy) into linkable entities for backlinks across years.
  • themes/ or tags - Advent threads you returned to: waiting, justice, joy/Gaudete, light in darkness, the manger. Tagging notes by theme makes year-over-year planning easier.
  • people/ - authors and artists (Bonhoeffer, Bowler, Guite, Mansour…) as note hubs.

Note on one source to verify

“A Blessing for Beginning Again” (Dec 4) was unattributed in the calendar - confirm the author before reusing it publicly.
